As summer hits full swing here in the Sierra Foothills, so do the temperatures — and we’re not talking mid-80s. In places like Murphys, Angels Camp, Valley Springs, and beyond, we regularly see temps soar over 100 degrees. And that kind of heat can do a number on your car if you're not prepared.

🔧 1. Check Your Cooling System That kind of triple-digit heat puts extra pressure on your engine. Make sure your radiator, coolant levels, and hoses are up to par. Overheating on the side of Highway 49 in July? No thank you.
🛞 2. Inspect Your Tires Heat causes air to expand, which can lead to blowouts on hot pavement. Check your tire pressure and tread — including the spare — before you hit the road.
🔋 3. Test Your Battery High temps can cause battery fluid to evaporate, which shortens battery life. If it’s been more than 3 years, get it tested or replaced before you find yourself stuck in the sun.
🧽 4. Wash Off That Dust and Sap Summers in our area mean dry roads, dusty conditions, and sticky pine trees. A good wash and wax protect your paint and help your car stay cooler, too.
🧊 5. Make Sure Your A/C is Chill A working air conditioner is a must when you're cruising through Valley Springs or stuck in Arnold traffic due to road construction. If the air isn’t blowing cold or takes forever to cool down, it’s time for a service check.
🧰 6. Pack an Emergency Kit Always keep summer essentials in your car: bottled water, snacks, sunscreen, a phone charger, flashlight, jumper cables, and a basic first aid kit. A wide-brim hat and hand fan wouldn't hurt either.
